Adieu à la Grande Roue

Today Paris will say adieu to one of its big symbols and people are having different opinions about it.

For the past 2 days, the Wheel has been more crowded than ever, with incredibly huge lines.

The Mairie de Paris has decided to remove la Grande Roue to restore the way Paris looked in the original Napoleonic plan. He designed a direct entrance to Paris from the Triumph Arc until the Louvre, passing through the Champs-Elysées and the Tuilleries.

The Ferris Wheel was inaugurated in 1993, designed by Marcel Campion, and became a symbol for the christmas market (that’s also being suppressed by the Mairie).

More than 400.000 visiteurs have been to la Grande Roue de Paris per year to see the amazing view of the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Elysées and the Tuilleries.

You can see a few of the photos I took yesterday bellow.

In the same time tourists will miss it and it will no longer be a beautiful view from the Champs-Elysées and the Tuilleries, parisiens and history-concernned people are joyful for the original Napoleonic plan to be brought back.

I, personally agree with the removal, for the historical reasons and yesterday I went there to say mon adieu.

For parisiens, the Ferris Wheel is free (if presented a parisian id card) and for everyone else is 12€. For a single ticket you have to pay in cash, but for 2 or more tickets you can pay by credit card.

So, what do you think about all this? They should keep it as it is or the decision to remove it is correct?

Tell me in the comments bellow.

See you in the next post.
